BANFF

“I reckon he’s absolutely a star on the rise.” - Zan Rowe, Triple J

“Forbes balances free-flowing folk-pop with sharp stabs of sorrow…undercuts the luscious layered harmonies with a reflective tone of mistakes made, ships sailed etc.” – Rolling Stone AUS

“Benjamin Forbes is a new name on the Australian music scene, but if his first single is anything to go by, he's one you'll be hearing a lot more about soon.” - Indie Shuffle

“Act Of Misacting [has] a nice tension to it, allowing you to see both sides of the argument and the soul in the machine.” – The Single Life (The Music)

“Understated and calming” – Society of Sound

Consistently delivering one gorgeous track after another, BANFF is the solo project of Brisbane singer-songwriter Benjamin Forbes.

"I played in bands for years, which is awesome, but sometimes you've just gotta break away and really throw yourself out there and challenge yourself," is how Benjamin Forbes explains his decision to part company with Brisbane band Little Casino in 2014, "and BANFF was the result of me just wanting to become a better songwriter and really take a lot of control over the creative output that I was delivering."

Shortly afterwards, Forbes found himself in Melbourne at the studio of Tom Iansek (Big Scary, #1 Dads), putting down BANFF’s debut EP, Future Self, which was released mid-2015. All three singles from this EP were picked up for community, national and international radioplay with Stand In Line featured in the Netflix series Degrassi: Next Class, also finding its way onto the TV show’s official soundtrack.

"People seemed to listen to it," Forbes observes of his early BANFF material. And this immediate success motivated him to continue writing solo material to ultimately pursue "music as a career".

After taking out the triple j Unearthed competition to perform The Falls Music & Arts Festival in Byron Bay, BANFF showcased at The Great Escape and then toured Europe with Slow Dancer.

Since the release of Future Self, Forbes has recruited an impressive roster of musicians including Adrian Mauro (Machine Age, guitar/synths), Dominic Spooner (bass) and Daniel Puusaari (Cub Scout, drums).

BANFF is currently in the studio putting the finishing touches on his next EP, due out this year.
